Highlights include hikes to stunning spots like Virginia Falls and Rockwell Falls, where you’ll marvel at the power of nature. We’ll journey along the Going-to-the-Sun Road, one of the most scenic drives in America, and explore alpine trails at Logan Pass. Whether trekking to the Hidden Lake Overlook or along the legendary Highline Trail, you’ll have opportunities to spot mountain goats, marmots, and bighorn sheep. Guided by local experts, each day will deepen your connection to Glacier’s unique ecosystems, from its wildlife to its wildflowers.

Justin Yoder is the founder and Executive Director of LGBT+ Outdoors, where he combines his passion for nature with his mission to connect the LGBTQ+ community to the great outdoors. His love for the natural world was sparked at a young age and has only grown stronger over time. Some of Justin’s favorite outdoor activities include camping, fishing, archery, and kayaking, all of which reflect his deep appreciation for the beauty and adventure the outdoors offers. Alongside his love for nature, Justin is passionate about advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights and is dedicated to introducing queer individuals to new outdoor activities, fostering both connection and empowerment. His commitment to building community and embracing adventure is at the heart of everything he does with LGBT+ Outdoors.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 | Thursday, August 21 Arrival and Orientation

  • Meet at Glacier Park International Airport (TBD for pick-up logistics)

  • Drive to camp and settle into accommodations

  • Optional: Hike Rocky Point (if time allows)

  • Group dinner and evening program: Welcome to Glacier National Park

Day 2 | Friday, August 22 Waterfalls and Wildflowers

  • Begin the day with an educational session on wildflowers and fire ecology

  • Hike the Baring Falls/St. Mary Falls/Virginia Falls trail (6.3 miles, 682 ft elevation gain)

    • Experience the contrast of old charred snags and flourishing new growth

    • Enjoy the misty coolness of Virginia Falls, the grand finale of the hike

  • Lunch on the trail.

  • Afternoon visit to Apgar Village with optional swimming at Lake McDonald

  • Evening program: Walk to Quarter Circle Bridge

Day 3 | Saturday, August 23 Alpine Adventures

  • Explore alpine ecology and wildlife through educational sessions on alpine mammals, wildflowers, and climate change

  • Choose between two hikes:

    • Hidden Lake Overlook: 2.8 miles roundtrip (optional 2.4-mile extension to the lake), 550 ft elevation change

    • Highline Trail: 8.4 miles roundtrip, 1,758 ft elevation change

  • Lunch on the trail

  • Return to camp for dinner and an evening program (topic TBD)

Day 4 | Sunday, August 24 Waterfalls and Wildlife

  • Educational session on phenology, biodiversity, and watersheds

  • Hike the Rockwell Falls trail (7 miles, 375 ft elevation gain)

    • Admire lush meadows, beaver ponds, and towering mountains

    • Watch for moose and the elusive American Dipper

  • Lunch on the trail

  • Return to camp for a closing group dinner and a campfire reflection

Day 5 | Monday, August 25: Departure

  • Enjoy a final breakfast at camp

  • Optional personal programming or educational session in the morning

  • Depart for Glacier Park International Airport

  • Our trips are designed specifically for members of the LGBTQ+ community who are 18 years old and older, including bisexual individuals with straight partners, straight transgender individuals, and the straight partners of transgender people. We aim to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone within our broader community

  • On our trip, you’ll stay in a five person cabin. These cabins are simple, hostel-style accommodations featuring five single beds, bedside lights, and electrical outlets. Participants should be ready to share their space with up to four others. Couples may have the chance to room together if space allows.

    Each bed comes with a bottom sheet, pillow, and pillowcase, but you’ll need to bring your own warm sleeping bag. Don’t forget to pack a flashlight or headlamp for nighttime trips to the bathroom. If you don’t have a sleeping bag, rentals are available to ensure your comfort during the trip.

  • No, but it can help. Our trips are designed to welcome adventurers of all experience levels, whether it’s your first time exploring the outdoors or you’re a seasoned pro. If you are new to hiking or hiking in mountains, we suggest practicing on a treadmill with an incline—this can help prepare you and make the experience smoother and more fun!

  • The price includes pick-up and drop-off at Glacier Park International Airport, accommodations, meals (starting with dinner the first night and breakfast the last day), guided activities, gear rentals, and park entry fees. Please note travel to and from Montana is not included.

  • A detailed packing list is provided, but minimal gear is needed for this trip. Ideally, you'll want to pack your belongings in a large hiking backpack and bring only minimal camping essentials and attire.

  • Meals are provided during the trip and can be customized to accommodate dietary needs. Please let us know your requirements in advance. You are welcome to provide and prepare your own meals; however, that is definitely not necessary.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Absolutely! Many participants join without knowing anyone else on the trip. Our trips foster a sense of community and connection, making it easy to form friendships.

  • The trip deposit is nonrefundable, but it can be applied to another Adventure Trip for the same year or following year. Other payment/s can be fully refunded up to 30 days before the trip start date. Within 30 days, 75% of your payment/s can be refunded. At any point you can transfer your deposit and payment/s to another attendee.

  • Yes. All trips require a $250 nonrunnable deposit to secure your spot on the trip. Depending on the amount of the trip determines the amount of payments allowed. When you pay for the trip you will have three options:

    1. Pay for the trip in full

    2. Pay the deposit and the balance later

    3. Pay the deposit and make payments allowed in payment form

  • Unfortunately, by the time the trip is happening expenses have been paid for and can not be refunded. Additionally, you are responsible for any additional costs such as, but not limited to flight changes or transportation to the airport.

  • Yes! Your trip leaders provide a detailed packing list!
